The World Health Organisation (WHO) has anounced that in 2030, the incidents of death due to heart ailments will be grave in India. Cardiac problems are due to two factors - congenital and acquired.
The acquired problem can further be classified into two types – Problems in the valves and problems in the cardiac musculaters. Problems in the cardiac musculaters are the ones that one can be avoided, as long as there is some control on one’s lifestyle, food habits, emotion stability, along with regular exercise.
Acupunture is a way in which cardiac disease can be prevented. Any pain during myocardial infarction is nothing but the cry of the dying cardiac muscles that are devoid of blood supply, which is not felt around the chest region, but also in the arm most of the time. This is described as ‘Reffered pain’. In acupunture, the heart median which starts from the heart, runs through the inner part of the arm and ends in the tip of the fingers, which is useful in the treatment process. Apart from loss of blood supply to the cardiac muscles which is the only reason that is described in other modalities of treatment, acupunture gives separate factors that manifest as cardiac pain. Acupunture helps in not only the treatment, but also in the prevention of cardiac diseases, as well. By correct selection of points, cardiac musculatere is strengthened and blood flow in the carotid arteries is regulated.
