New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday asked the Congress to prove the “leadership potential” of its Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi.
BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said the Congress’s plan to make Gandhi a future leader of India and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s suggestion to project him as UPA's candidate for the Chief Minister's post in Uttar Pradesh were a comical farce.
"The Congress party must come clear on the leadership potential of Gandhi," Prasad said.
Gandhi's speeches in the Lok Sabha show that he is yet to become a competent parliamentarian, said Prasad, who was a minister in the NDA Government.
"The Congress must shed its hypocrisy," he remarked, alleging that the Congress had sought to project Gandhi as the country's future leader not because of his leadership skills but because of his family background.
