New Delhi: Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi reached the second round of the Australian Open in the mixed doubles category on Tuesday.
The Indian duo beat second seed Lisa Raymond of the US and Simon Aspelin of Sweden 6-3, 2-6, 10 -7 in their first round match.
Sania and Bhupathi began well taking the first set easily but the American-Swedish duo came back in the second to win it 6-2.
Finally, the Indian pair won the tiebreaker to set up a clash with Martin Damm and Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic
In the other match of the mixed doubles event, third seed Yan Zi of China and Mark Knowles of the Bahamas defeated Meilen Tu of the US and Marcin Matkowski of Poland in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
Sania has already lost in the women's singles and the women's doubles event.
