BANGALORE: In order to draw the government’s attention to the plight of the backward districts in the Hyderabad-Karnataka (H-K) region and pressing for effective implementation of the DM Nanjudappa Committee Report on amelioration of regional imbalances, former minister B Sriramulu has decided to take up a 839 km walkathon from Basavakalyan in Bidar district to Bangalore over 54 days.At a press meet here on Tuesday, Sriramulu, also Bellary Rural MLA, said that the walkathon would begin on April 24 at Basavakalyan to coincide with Basava Jayanthi and end on June 17 in Bangalore with a mammoth public rally. The ideology and the agenda of the new party floated by him would also be announced at the rally, he said. During the walkathon, Sriramulu said that he would highlight the problems of the H-K region. The walkathon would also cover Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Tumkur districts.Sriramulu said that the decision to take up such a long walkathon was taken after the stupendous response to his two-day fast held recently in Gadag.“I raised 108 questions, the government has not responded so far. We will continue the efforts to highlight the plight of people from the region,” he said.He said he will not return to the BJP, and that several BJP leaders would join him during the walkathon.
