The cold war between chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and Congress MPs from Telangana took a new turn Wednesday with the MPs deciding to move a privilege motion in the Lok Sabha against the him for refusing to meet them on the day of the Telangana March.
“Kiran Reddy violated our rights by refusing to give us an audience though we repeatedly tried to meet him and staged a sit-in in front of his camp office. Moreover, we were pushed around and arrested. Hence, we decided to complain against the CM and the DGP to Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar for breach of our privileges,” said MP Manda Jagannadham. Madhu Yashki Goud and G Vivekanand alleged that the CM insulted elected representatives by refusing to meet them.
“Though the state government tried to create hurdles to the Telangana March by detaining activists and cancelling buses and trains, people attended the protest in large numbers. The march proved that the Telangana agitation is still very strong,” the MPs said.
The chief minister’s latest remarks on the T issue seem to have further widened the divide between him and Telangana leaders. Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao lambasted the chief minister for his statement that a consensus was needed for according statehood to Telangana.
“Consensus is not possible even after 100 years as Telangana lawmakers are in a minority in the Assembly. Moreover, it is not appropriate for the chief minister to take sides on the issue,” the Rajya Sabha member said.
Following the letters written by Telangana MPs against the chief minister, Kiran Reddy’s camp is preparing to send a letter to the AICC top brass complaining against the Telangana MPs. MLC M S Prabhakar is collecting the signatures of MLCs and MLAs who back the chief minister in this row.
