Thane: A teenager girl allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze after she had an altercation with a woman, police said on Sunday.

The girl (19), a resident of Mira Road area in Thane, committed suicide at her residence after she had a quarrel with a woman, who doubted that she had an affair with her son, Mira Road woman police sub-inspector NS Patil said.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim's father on Saturday night at Kashimira police station, the woman, whose name was given as Kanchan Mangale, had a quarrel with the girl on March 8 and also verbally abused her, he said.

She suspected that the girl had an affair with her son. Disturbed over the incident, on Tuesday when there was no one at home, she poured with kerosene and set herself ablaze, Patil added. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) against Mangale at Kashimira police station.
