OR a lot of locals in Pondicherry, Impprintz is the place to head to for creative solutions. Set up in 2010 on Compagnie Street by Rahul Surekha, his fiancé Simran (NIFT Mumbai) and an internee Sagaar Gavri (NIFT Mumbai), the graphic design company believes in being ethical, aesthetic and relevant. Before establishing Impprintz Design, Surekha travelled to Spain to learn designing. As for choosing Pondicherry as his base, he says, “First of all, Pondicherry is home and wherever I have travelled, I have always been treated in a special and unique way because I am from Pondicherry. So I thought to myself that there surely is something special about this place.’’ Insisting that Pondicherry has so much potential despite its size, he shows us around his small studio that specialises in print design. As the name suggests, they like to ‘‘keep designs innovative in terms of conception and production.” From T-shirts to interiors Impprintz caters to the requirements of pubs like Blanco in Delhi, products like Anne Fench and Currimbhoys, corporate firms like Global Ants Business solutions and Pixtures.Their first clients were Choco-La, the chocolate shop in Pondicherry, Living Art, an ethnic, bohemian lifestyle brand and City Direct, a small monthly magazine on Pondicherry. Now they have expanded to design T-shirts and CD covers for Prosody, a blues rock band in Pune. Impprintz also has Flints, featuring funky graphic and hand made products.Their line of paper stationery includes ‘Digitalkong’ an urban monkey, and there’s more coming up.Surekha believes that a lot of artists and designers who come to or live in Pondicherry go unnoticed. He hopes to promote these artists and was thus a part of Voila, Pondicherry’s art initiative launched last year, where all artists are welcome to share expressions.Making of a brand The team’s dream is to help a company start from scratch and look into branding, press release, brochures, stationery and advertisement. They are already working on such a project – the Conscious Living store in Mysore. They claim to be affordable and sensitive to tight deadlines.Details: [email protected] 9323880989
