Mumbai: Three persons have perished in a building collapse in Zaveri Bazaar on Friday. Fire brigade officials along with other rescue personnel are still looking for four others, who have been reported missing since the collapse happened at 1 pm.

Narrow lanes and congestion has made it difficult for rescue workers to search the area. Four fire engines, one rescue van and four ambulances have been deployed at the spot.

The collapse of a slab in the building under repairment led to the disaster.

"10 labourers were still working on the 4th floor of the building when the slab collapsed. Seven of them had come out safely," a fire department official said.

Six other labourers were working on the 1st floor, while five of them managed to come out safely, one person was reported missing.

The six-storey building at Chippy Chawl in Zaveri Bazaar belongs to MHADA.

MHADA was conducting repair work on the fourth floor of the building when the accident took place and a portion of a slab crashed and collapsed on parts of third, second and first floor.
