Madurai: A special police team along with bomb detection and disposal squad seized a huge cache of explosives from Sindu Granite in Thiruvadavur, which were hoarded without proper security and permission. The seized explosives includes ammonium nitrate 150 kg, cortex wire 250 meter, gun load 30 kg, gel 219 kg, 1800 ordinary detonator and 425 electric detonator.
The Sindu granite has procured the explosives without getting permission from the police, said a police officer adding that the explosives were stored on its premises was in huge quantity which could devastate surrounding areas upto 10 km. The Keelavalavu police have registered a case against the owner of Sindu granite under section 5(1) of explosives act 1884 and arrested the manager Prabhu based on a complaint from Melur Tahsildar Vasantha Juliate.
Meanwhile, DVAC sleuths on Thursday commenced preliminary investigations into the alleged involvement of Government officials in the illegal granite quarrying case here on Thursday by collecting information from officials of various departments. The Superintendent of Police, DVAC, Dr Senthivelan, along with Collector Anshul Mishra and SP V Balakrishnan and officials from various departments inspected the areas alleged to have been illegally quarried by the granite companies with ‘necessary support’ from the Government officials.
The district officials and police have explained the DVAC officials about the companies that had illegally quarried granite in irrigation tanks, cart paths and canals. Officials also took the DVAC team to PRP Export premises where the sleuths videographed the entire premises. “They also collected the list of Government officials who allegedly acted hand-in-clove with the granite firm owners and aided them in illegal quarrying,” said a senior revenue officer.
The State’s premier investigation agency is expected to start its investigation against the officials belonging to various department such as Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited, Public Works Department, revenue and police department after collecting all the required documents to prove their guilt.
