KRISHNAGIRI: The body of a 42-year old transgender was found in a remote area near Krishnagiri town on Thursday, sending shock waves among the members of the community in the district.The victim, identified as Meenakshiammal, from Ukkadam in Coimbatore, has been residing in Mullai Nagar near here for the past few months. As Meenakshiammal’s house remained locked for the past four days, neighbours thought that she was out of station. But as foul smell emanated from the house, neighbours informed the Village Administrative Officer Sheik Dawood, who alerted the Krishnagiri taluk police. A police team rushed to the spot, broke open the door and entered house. They found Meenakshiammal’s body in a highly decomposed state. The culprits strangulated her to death with a rope. Some burns were also found on the chest. The police recovered the body and sent it to Krishnagiri GH for postmortem. A case in this connection has been registered in Krishnagiri town police station. According to preliminary inquiry, the nieghbours told police that they have seen Meenakshiammal last on Sunday when she fetched water from the public tap in Mullai Nagar. While around 100 transgenders were living in Pachaliyoor area near Krishnagiri, only Meenakshiammal was staying alone in Mullai Nagar. The police suspect that a youth, who used to visit Meenakshiammal’s house frequently, may be behind the murder.
