Defying all odds, Ansar Ahmad Shaikh, son of an autorickshaw driver, cracked the prestigious UPSC examinations in the first attempt and secured 361st rank. Throughout his preparation for the UPSC exams, Ansar faced discrimination and hardships on multiple fronts. He hails from Jalna district in the heart of drought-hit Marathwada region and his Muslim identity proved to be a barrier to get accomodation in Pune. He was forced to change his name to Shubham to secure accommodation in Pune.
