CHENNAI: The main contenders for the Chennai mayor’s post from the ruling AIADMK and DMK filed their nomination papers at the Ripon Building here on Monday. While former mayor and the DMK nominee M Subramanian filed his papers in a quiet affair in the morning, the Ripon Building saw a sea of supporters when AIADMK nominee Saidai S Duraisamy reached there.Accompanied by Law Minister G Senthamilan, MP Balaganga and MLAs P Vetrivel and V P Kalairajan, Duraisamy filed his papers with District Election Officer D Karthikeyan around 12.30 pm. Earlier in the day, DMK treasurer M K Stalin and three district secretaries, including J Anbalagan and T M Anbarasan, accompanied Subramanian to Karthikeyan’s room to file his papers.While the AIADMK candidate did not meet media citing appointment at Poes Garden, Stalin expressed hope that Subramanian would win the election.As per the affidavits submitted by the candidates, Duraisamy has property worth around Rs 69 crore with five cars and Subramanian’s has property worth Rs 2.66 crore. He does not own a car.On the fifth day of the filing of nomination papers, three independent candidates — J Aridas, R D Sekar and K Rajan — also filed their papers for the poll.
