Kolkata: A city court on Wednesday remanded five accused in the Burdwan blast case to NIA custody till February 3 after the agency sought time to unravel more details of their alleged links with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh. Chief Judge of Metropolitan Court Md Mumtaz Khan remanded the five accused to seven days' NIA custody on a prayer by it for custodial interrogation of the five accused.

NIA counsel Shyamal Ghosh submitted that Habibur Rahman, Fazlul Haq alias Dalim Sheikh, Motiur Rahman and Gyasudding Munshi were members of Bangladesh terror outfit JMB and that they had taken arms and explosive training from experts of JMB.

He sought 10 days' NIA custody of the four accused, stating that they were arrested yesterday from the city and were needed for unearthing details of their involvement in such activities. Ghosh also prayed for extension of NIA remand of Rezaul Karim, who had been arrested earlier, claiming that he was a member of JMB and was involved in conspiracy against India.

It was also claimed that Karim, a prized catch, had purchased raw material for manufacturing IEDs. No lawyer appeared for any of the accused. Two suspected terrorists of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh were killed in the blast at Khagragarh in West Bengal's Burdwan town on October 2,2014.
