According to religious stories, when a person leaves the house to take a bath in the Ganga on a particular date in Brahma Muhurta, only then do his ancestors become happy. This festival is also significant astrologically. After the Ganga Aarti is over, saints circulate the lamp to all those who are present. Cup your hands over the flame and raise your palms on the forehead to seek purification and blessing. Here, the aarti consists of small diyas and flowers that are later floated down the river.
On Ganga Saptami, the Deepadan ritual is observed. Huge fairs are also organised near the banks of the holy river.
Reciting the Ganga Sahasranama Stotram and the Gayatri Mantra is also considered fortunate on Ganga Saptami.
