Honey Singh Reveals Shah Rukh Khan Initially Rejected ‘Lungi Dance’ For Chennai Express: ‘Beta, Mazaa Nahi Aaya’
Honey Singh shared that Shah Rukh Khan initially turned down his song 'Lungi Dance,' which later became a huge hit after being featured in the film 'Chennai Express'.

Honey Singh, a game-changer in Punjabi and Bollywood music, recently shared some behind-the-scenes stories about his journey and challenges. Known for gifting fans with iconic tracks, Honey Singh revealed in an interview how even Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan initially rejected his hit song ‘Lungi Dance,’ which later became a blockbuster after being featured in ‘Chennai Express’. The singer also opened up about a costly misstep—scrapping a music video shot in Thailand with 400 bikini-clad women due to protests in Punjab.

During a chat with Lallantop, one of the most surprising revelations made by Honey Singh was about ‘Lungi Dance,’ which Shah Rukh Khan initially rejected. “When ‘Angreji Beat’ and ‘Party All Night’ became hits, the next person came to me and said they wanted a song like those tracks. I suggested ‘Lungi Dance,’ but it was rejected,” Singh confessed.

However, Bhushan Kumar believed in the song’s potential, and when director Rohit Shetty got wind of it, the track was included in ‘Chennai Express’, where it went on to become one of the most loved Bollywood tracks, “Shah Rukh bhai rejected it. He said, ‘Beta, maza nahi aaya (I didn’t like the song).’ I was very upset. I asked Bhushan Kumar if he saw the potential in the song, and he told me it was a superhit. We planned to release it as a single, but when Rohit Shetty found out, he decided to take it. I’ve had to say no to a lot of big people because everyone was trying to stereotype me,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a different conversation with Cine Connect, Honey Singh recalled his experience on the sets of Lungi Dance song. The rapper revealed, “The only funny moment from the Lungi dance set is that they called me and made me sit for up to 12 hours with makeup. It was their plan to make me wait. They were like, ‘This guy is so excited to be part of this shoot, let us make him wait.’ I was sitting for 12 hours, and whoever visited the set, they came to me and greeted me and spoke to me kindly including Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone who was accompanied by Ranveer Singh.”

Chennai Express starred Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone as the lead actors. The story revolves around Shah Rukh Khan who travels from Mumbai to Rameshwaram, and while on it, falls in love with Deepika Padukone who is daughter of a local Don. Shah Rukh also underwent a shoulder surgery due to an injury he had on the sets of ‘Chennai Express’ while shooting a fist-fight scene with Deepika Padukone.

Chennai Express released in 2013. The actress reunited with Shah Rukh Khan for the film but was her first collaboration with Rohit Shetty. The film emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2013. It was the same year that Deepika and Ranveer starred in their first film together, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. 2013 was also a big year for the actress as she starred in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Race 2.
