South icon Vijay Sethupathi is currently appearing in Maharaja, released last month. The Jawan actor is gaining a lot of acclaim for his performance from the critics and the audience alike. As per the new reports, the film was screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, where the audience received it with a deserved applause.
In the film, Vijay Sethupathi is seen in the titular role, where he plays the role of a suspicious barber, in search of a mysterious person named Lakshmi. Dubbed as an action thriller, the film touches on the topic of sexual abuse. The special screening at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles was attended by the main men behind the release, which include Vijay Sethupathi and the director Nithilan Swaminathan. Mamta Mohandas, who is seen in a pivotal role, also graced the event with her presence.
Now, in its third week of release, the film is going strong at the box office, the reports state. Maharaja is directed as well as written by Nithilan Swaminathan and was released on June 14. The cast includes Vijay Sethupathi as the lead, supported by Anurag Kashyap, Sachana Namidass, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam and Abhirami, among many others. It is produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy under the banners of Passion Studios, The Route and Think Studios. The music in the film is given by B Ajaneesh Loknath. The cinematographer is Dinesh Purushothaman with Philomin Raj editing. Made on a reported budget of Rs 20 crore, the film has collected around Rs 100 crore at the box office. At the moment, Maharaja is the third highest-grossing Tamil language film released in 2024. The film witnessed the highest opening weekend for a Tamil film this year.
Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming project is titled Viduthalai Part 2. The film is being directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar. It is being produced under the banners of RS Infotainment and Grass Root Film Company.
