Rekha has always been the queen of controversies and undivided attention. From her films to her personal life, the mystery around the diva refuses to fade away. Author Yasser Usman is all set to shed light upon the actress' few untold moments with his new book Rekha: The Untold Story.
The book brings out a different side of the actress. From what her contemporaries had to say about her to the dark times when the entire world blamed her for her husband Mukesh's suicide, the book covers it all. The book also covers incidents known to few and brings to notice the vulnerable, emotional side of the National Award winning actress.
According to the book, during the shooting of Anjana Safar, the director hatched a plan with film's male lead Biswajeet to catch a 15 year old Rekha off guard for a kissing scene. The actress was shocked when Biswajeet caught hold of her and kissed her forcefully for a long time. With the entire crew members watching and hooting at the actress' harassment, the incident earned Rekha the tag of 'sex-kitten'.
Later, Biswajeet claimed that incident to be Raja Nawathe's idea. This inappropriate act was termed as a 'director's idea' , scaring the little girl entering the big bad world of Bollywood, for life.
The book also covers the time when Rekha got married to Vinod Mehra in Calcutta and returned to Bombay to his house. Vinod's mother Kamla Mehra refused to let the newlywed bride inside her house and humiliated her in front of all the neighbours. Kamla even picked up her slippers to throw at the actress in a fit of rage. She rushed to the lift crying before Vinod consoled her to stay till his mother calms down.
Another incident in the book highlights the carefree, controversial side of the actress. At Neetu and Rishi Kapoor's wedding, Rekha walked in wearing a mangalsutra and sindoor dabbed on her head. While the photographers had a field day catching the diva's controversial look, the actress was yearning for someone else's attention. Amitabh Bachchan was also a guest at the wedding along with his wife Jaya Bachchan and his parents. After much delay, Rekha finally walked upto the megastar and the two started chatting formally, however the gazing eyes of the guests told a different story.
According to a report in Stardust, "Jaya tried to keep a stoic front for a long time, but eventually she had to bend her head and let the tears roll down."
The book covers significant events from Rekha's journey from being a little girl forced into Bollywood to becoming the iconic diva of Bollywood. Yasser Usman has tried to solve the mystery of one of Bollywood's most iconic actresses.
