The new season of Koffee with Karan kicked off with none other than Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone gracing the coveted couch. During the show, Ranveer had a candid chat with Karan Johar, delving into both personal and professional aspects of his life. Notably, he addressed the criticism he received for his role in the highly anticipated film, Don 3, in which he replaced Shah Rukh Khan. The actor has faced significant backlash for stepping into the shoes of the megastar, and he had a message for those who were critical of this casting decision.
During the rapid-fire round, Ranveer Singh was asked by the host, Karan Johar, if he had a message for those who think that he is not the proper fit for the role of Don. The actor humbly stated, “Ek chance dedo, 12–13 saal me thik thak hi kaam kiya hai maine, toh ek mauka toh banta hai (Give me a chance; I have done decent work in the last 12-13 years, so I deserve a chance).”
Farhan Akhtar made headlines earlier this year when he announced the highly anticipated third installment of his legendary franchise, Don. A first-look teaser featuring Ranveer was released, revealing the actor in the iconic character while delivering a monologue: “Sher jo so raha hai woh jaagega kab? Poochte hain yeh sab. Unse keh do ki phir jaag utha hoon main, aur phir saamne jald aane ko. Kya hai taakat meri, kya hai himmat meri, phir dikhane ko. Maut se khelna zindagi hai meri, jeetna hi mera kaam hai. Tum toh hai jaante jo mera naam hai. 11 mulkon ki police dhoondti hai mujhe, par pakad paaya hai mujhko kaun? Main hoon Don (When will the sleeping lion wake up? Everybody wants to know. Tell them, I am here. I’m back to show you what I’m made of. You know my name, the police from 11 nations are trying to get hold of me but failed. I am Don).”

The original Don, directed by Chandra Barot in 1978, starred Amitabh Bachchan and was a blockbuster film. In 2006, the film was remade under the same name, starring Shah Rukh Khan. Don 2, the sequel, was released in 2011, and it also featured Shah Rukh. The third installment has been announced after over a decade and is claimed to begin a “new era” for the franchise by the makers. Don 3 is being produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar of Excel Entertainment.
