A 34-year-old man was grievously injured after being stabbed in the face by a momos vendor during an argument over extra ‘chutney’ in Delhi, police said Thursday. The incident took place in in Shahdara’s Farsh Bazar area when an altercation ensued between customer, Sandeep and the momos vendor after the former asked the latter for extra red sauce.

Quoting police, an NDTV report said Sandeep was admitted to the Hedgewar Hospital where he is undergoing treatment for serious facial injuries.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rohit Meena noted that on Wednesday evening, a call was received at the police control room regarding a stabbing incident. The incident was reported from Gali No-10 Bhikam Singh Colony.

A police team reached the spot to find an injured Sandeep, a resident of the nearby New Sanjay Amar Colony, who was rushed to the local hospital.

Sandeep, who runs a small mobile charger-making unit in Bholanath Nagar in Shahadara, told police that he went to a roadside cart to eat momos on Wednesday evening. After purchasing momos, he asked the vendor, 22-year-old Vikas for extra ‘chutney’, who refused saying it was in limited stock.

An argument broke out between the two which led to Vikas allegedly stabbing Sandeep in his face twice, a police officer said. Vikas fled the scene soon after.

“Our team met Sandeep, who stated that he had gone to purchase momos from the cart of Vikas, who is a resident of the same colony. Vikas handed over the momos to Sandeep along with red sauce. Sandeep demanded more sauce from Vikas, who refused saying he had a limited stock of the sauce and more customers would need it. When Sandeep insisted an altercation broke out between the two and it soon turned violent. Vikas picked up a knife from the cart and stabbed Sandeep twice in his face, causing serious stab wounds,” DCP Meena was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.

An FIR was registered for an attempt to murder and a police team was formed to nab the perpetrator, the officer added.

He was arrested from the Farsh Bazar area on Thursday morning.
