Mohammad Shami penned a heartfelt note after winning the prestigious Arjuna Award, the second-highest sporting honour. The pacer posted on his official handle on X where he thanked his family members and friends & fans for the support.

Shami produced a stellar run of performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup where he managed to end up as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament despite missing out on the first few matches in the marquee tournament. He finished with 24 wickets in just seven games leading India to the finals.

In his post, the fast bowler shared,” This award inspires me to continue to pursue my passion with even greater enthusiasm. I am honoured to have received this award.”

He also surpassed the legendary Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath to become India’s highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cups. He now has 55 wickets in the marquee tournament.

“I don’t have words to explain that how I started my journey from Amroha to Indian cricket. Passion is always there and I always try to play as much as I can and do well for the country,” Shami had spoken earlier.

“I take great pride in having one of the best childhoods since the best parents raised me in the entire universe,” Shami thanked his parents in his heartfelt post as well after receiving the prestigious award.

The pacer was playing through injuries in the World Cup, according to reports, and was ruled out after the tournament after failing to clear the medical tests by the BCCI.

Shami will be looking to recover from his current injuries having missed all the games since the World Cup including the two Tests against South Africa as well. He will be aiming to make a statement once again with performances in the IPL to warrant his selection for India’s T20 World Cup squad later on in 2024.
