NEET 2021 'Fake' Exam Pattern Goes Viral, Govt Issues Warning

Several posts claiming to have found the new paper pattern for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 have been going viral on social media platforms. There has been no official information on how many questions will be asked in the medical entrance exam, however, several posts claiming to have screenshots of the yet-to-release NEET 2021 brochure state that there will be 50 questions per section in NEET 2021 instead of 45.

As per the viral social media posts, there will be a choice in the exam and students will have to answer 45 out of 50 questions asked. These speculations have been based on the fact that the Ministry of Education had announced that the JEE and NEET entrance tests will have a choice in the exams this year. While the JEE Main exam pattern has been released and exams are taking place, there is no official confirmation on the exact number of questions to be asked in NEET this year.

“The syllabus of JEE and NEET will remain unchanged for the year 2021, however, unlike previous years, this year the candidates will have options to answer the questions in JEE and NEET. The exact pattern for NEET (UG) 2021 is yet to be announced. However, in view of the reduction of the syllabus by some boards across the country, the NEET (UG) 2021 question paper will also have options on the lines of JEE (Main),” Education Ministry had said in an official statement earlier this year.

The government has taken notice of the situation and has informed that social media posts claiming to be NEET 2021 brochures are fake. Govt’s fact check wing has issued a statement warning students to not rely on such platforms.

“Several posts claiming that @DG_NTA has released the exam pattern of #NEET2021 are doing the rounds on social media #PIBFactCheck: This exam pattern is #Fake & not released by NTA. For updates, visit the NTA’s official website: https://nta.ac.in,” PIB said in a tweet.

NEET 2021 has been delayed this year to be held on August 1. Earlier, there were speculations that the exam will be held twice a year, however, the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education could not reach a consensus on the same and hence it is being held only once this year. Students seeking admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses have to clear NEET.
