PM has written a foreword in a soon-to-be-released book about the radio programme, mentioning what started as a ‘small experiment’ brought to light the inspiring stories of many Indians

‘Mann ki Baat’ has evolved much more than just a radio programme and has become a platform for the voices of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written in the foreword of a soon-to-be-released book.

The book, ‘Igniting Collective Goodness: Mann ki Baat @ 100’, has been compiled by the BlueKraft Digital Foundation and published by Westland Publications Limited. The programme completed 100 episodes in April.

The PM in his message said the programme started as a small experiment to bring to light the inspiring life stories that often remain overshadowed in the daily hustle of politics and governance. “It has become a platform for the voices of our nation, particularly those from the grassroots, whose stories of perseverance, courage and innovation continue to inspire us all,” the PM has written. He also said the topics discussed on the show have had a multiplier effect and inspired intellectual curiosity and scholarly study.

The book will have the unique distinction of being a historical document for generations of readers, researchers, and scribes, and a living entity that catalogues the most momentous acts of collective goodness of ordinary citizens, in conversation with their leader, the publishers said.

Writing the introduction, the authors stated that “BlueKraft is grateful to the PM for providing us with the occasion to personally interact with him, while we were researching this book. Consequently, the book quotes him in many chapters, as and where relevant. The book presents a vibrant series of innately humane interactions he has had with many citizens across the range of the popular radio address. It is as much a people’s book, as it is the Prime Ministers.”

This is the third book in the series, all of which capture the extraordinary journey to a distinct milestone of Mann Ki Baat — an ongoing dialogue, which has kept the nation engaged once a month since 2014. The first book was published following the culmination of 26 episodes and was released in 2017 by the then-President of India. The ensuing book, marking 50 episodes, was the second milestone and was launched in 2019 by the then finance minister.

With over 23 crore regular listeners, and 96% of the Indian population aware of the programme, the PM has made it a point to communicate his heartfelt issues directly to the citizens of India through the course of his immensely popular radio programme.

Picking up on themes that were explored by the Prime Minister, the book is divided into four segments with 19 chapters, and traverses the entire gamut of the Mann Ki Baat phenomenon.

Section I titled ‘Speaking to the Nation’, comprises four insightful chapters that set the tone and tenor for the sense of national character that imbues the ensuing initiatives with Jan Bhagidari.

Section 2 is titled ‘Enabling Social Change’, comprises nine chapters focusing on specific domains and documents how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s persistent focus has had a transformative impact on each.

Section 3 is named ‘India’s Civilisational Unity in Its Splendid Diversity’ has five chapters and is about the simple and the small, the big and the beautiful, the different and the diverse, that make India what it is – a beautiful, throbbing mosaic.

The concluding Section 4, titled ‘Statistics and Strategies’, has a single chapter, with one analysis and three surveys, done by four reputed individuals and institutions, through the lens of both quantitative and qualitative analysis.

Inarguably, Mann Ki Baat has a burgeoning legacy – that of being the only one-of-its-kind national broadcast steered by the sitting head of government of the largest democracy, in conversation, often in real-time, always unbiased, with the most powerful democratic entity: The Indian citizen. Like the unique facet that makes Mann Ki Baat a special show, the book also delves into the most direct heart-to-heart conversations between the Prime Minister and his listeners, the publishers say.

From overarching themes from Nari Shakti, Jal Shakti and Swachh Bharat to matters of national import, such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, science and technology, health and fitness, cultural reawakening and sports, the book explores many subjects.

Readers of the book will find all these subjects delved into by PM Modi in conversational, relatable parlance, the publishers said.

The book has been published by Westland Publications Limited and is available on Amazon for pre-order.
