AB de Villiers also feels that bowling will be an area of concern for RCB next year too after they released players like Josh Hazlewood.

Proteas great AB de Villiers admitted that bowling has been an area of weakness for Royal Challengers Bangalore over the years. De Villiers is one of the greatest players to play for RCB as he had a long association with the franchise and was also inducted into its Hall of Fame.

The franchise has yet to win an IPL title despite being part of the tournament since its inception. They have played consistent cricket in the last few seasons but got eliminated from the playoffs stage.

De Villiers suggested that it’s difficult to bowl at Chinnaswamy Stadium due to the size of boundaries and RCB have also failed to hold their nerves under pressure which let them down.

“It has been a well-known fact that RCB’s bowling has been an area of weakness over the years. Yes, the batters also made a mess at times, but you need to play as a team. You need to gel together and understand each other. More often than not, there has been this feeling of making silly mistakes, not getting the discipline right, and not doing the basics well under pressure. We know how difficult it is to bowl at the Chinnaswamy Stadium,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, RCB took some bold decisions ahead of the IPL 2024 auction as they have released the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood and now have to build a fresh bowling attack with Mohammed Siraj as a leader.

De Villiers also feels that bowling will be an area of concern for RCB next year too after they released players like Hazlewood who performed consistently well for the team in the last couple of seasons.

“It is the area where I would be worried. Obviously, there is Mohammed Siraj there, Reece Topley, and some experience there, but if you see the released players list, they let go of Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood. Those three have won them a lot of games in the last couple of seasons, especially Hazlewood; he had just this way of controlling that bowling lineup,” he added.
