Advani’s statement came at a time, when Rajneesh Rai is set out of the probe and Geetha Johri has been brought back.

New Delhi: It’s not just support, but what may be called a pat on the back for the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi from BJP leader L K Advani.

Advani has said that he is proud of what the Modi government is doing.

"Of all the governments in power, Gujarat is the best. Though people look for faults, I think this government is being spoken of – not just in the country but worldwide," said Advani.

Advani’s statement came at a time, when Rajneesh Rai, DIG of the CID and the man who arrested D G Vanzara, the top cop accused of killing Sohrabuddin Sheikh, is set out of the probe.

And Geetha Johri has been reinstated to head the investigations. The shuffle important because Rajneesh replaced Geetha on the same case.

Rajneesh Rai, who was investigating the case till 1920 hours Thursday night, had plan to move the court for narco-analysis test for the three accused, that is D G Vanzara (DIG Border Range), Rajkumar Pandiyan (SP Gujarat Intelligence Bureau) and M N Dinesh (IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre).

The Public Prosecutor in the case, when the three accused were produced on Tuesday, had not moved this application.

This may be one of the reasons that Rajneesh has been moved out of the case.

But it’s an intriguing move of events in the case – first Geeta Johri, then Rajneesh Rai and now back to Geeta Johri, it’s really getting interesting day by day.

While, eight more police officers from Gujarat and Rajasthan are likely to be arrested soon, E Radhakrishnaiah, a Gujarat cadre officer currently on deputation as DIG of the CISF in Andhra Pradesh is being questioned.

The police officers allegedly used their service revolvers in the killing.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has asked the Gujarat government to submit a final report before it gives a decision on CBI probe.

It has also asked for the three other CID reports, out of which just one has been submitted in the court.

The next hearing is on May 15.
