Amid speculations that Congress veteran Kamal Nath is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party soon, another rumour claiming that Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari might also be joining the saffron camp made rounds. Tewari’s office on Sunday denied the claim calling it “baseless” and “unfounded.”
“The speculation that he will join the BJP is baseless and unfounded. Manish Tewari is in his constituency and looking after development work there. Last night, he stayed at a Congress worker’s home,” India Today reported quoting the Congress MP’s office.
The Congress MP’s clarification comes after some media reports quoting sources claimed that Tewari was in touch with the BJP leadership to work and might contest the election from Punjab’s Ludhiana on a BJP ticket.
This comes at a time when Congress is already preparing for a possible blow as sources say that former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and party veteran Kamal Nath is likely to join the saffron camp soon.
Earlier, Kamal Nath’s son- Nakul Kamal Nath, who is a Congress MP, dropped the party name and symbol from his bio sparking speculation that a big political switch might be on the cards.
On speculations about Kamal Nath joining the BJP, the Congress veteran, one of the few remaining leaders of the Indira Gandhi era, said he “will soon inform.”
Kamal Nath is reportedly upset as he was not consulted by the party leadership before the Congress nominated Gwalior-Chambal politician Ashok Singh for the Rajya Sabha elections.
On being asked about the latest developments, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said that he is confident Kamal Nath would never leave the party.
VD Sharma earlier said that many senior Congress leaders are upset with their party leadership after the grand old party turned down the invitation to Ram Temple’s ‘Pran Pratishta’ ceremony.
