BJP bankrupt of ideas: Congress
Congress spokesperson said government is serious in bringing back black money stashed away in foreign banks.

New Delhi: Congress on Saturday reacted sharply to BJP's criticism of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the issue of black money saying the main opposition party has become "bankrupt" of ideas and was indulging in "politics of obscurantism".

"They have no issues on which they can attack the government. So they are indulging in politics of obscurantism and making wild allegations. It has become totally bankrupt of ideas," party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters.

She was reacting to the contention of BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay that by accepting that corruption and inflation were a problem, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has accepted the opposition charge of his failure on these fronts.

The Congress spokesperson said the government was for "clear action" and is quite serious in bringing back the black money stashed away in foreign banks.

Asked to comment on media reports that some of the stakeholders in Kochi IPL could be involved in black money issue, Natarajan said that Government would take note of all such information but "it has to move in its own way. There is

no doubt about government's complete seriousness in tracking black money trail".

Asked about Senior BJP leader L K advani's remarks in Lucknow that he was hopeful that the government will concede to opposition's demand of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into 2G spectrum case, Natarajan said, "There is no change in Congress stand on JPC."

"Our stand on JPC today same what it was in past. We do not feel that JPC is necessary. There is absolutely no change in our position. PAC is already examining the issue.

Enquiries at various other levels are also going on. The Opposition must allow Parliament to function," she said.

Referring to the all-party meeting called by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on February 8 on the issue, she said, "Whatever decision comes, we will wait for that."

Asked about the purpose of the meeting of PRP chief Chiranjeevi with Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday, Natarjan said she was not aware of the agenda but added that such meetings keep on taking place between friendly parties.

Natarajan also dismissed the contention that Congress's attempts to rope in PRP was due to any threat to the Congress government in the state saying, "Absolutely not".

"Andhra Pradesh government stands strong on its feet. Talking to a friendly party is not a sign of weakness," she said.
