New Delhi: The battle of acronyms has broken out again in the campaign for the 2017 UP Assembly elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a rally in Jalaun on Monday repeated his ‘SCAM’ jibe, which he had first raised on February 4 during a rally in Meerut. He also hit out at Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Maywati saying BSP stands for ‘Behenji Sampatti Party’ (Party of Behenji’s wealth).

“Money started being deposited in banks all of a sudden after note ban and she (Mayawati) started asking why her brother’s account has been made public just before election. Behenji, discussion is not happening because elections are being held but because you have deposited Rs 100 crore after note ban. BSP is no longer Bahujan Samaj Party. It is Behenji Sampatti Party,” Modi said.

He added, “I have said SCAM stood for SP, Congress, Akhilesh and Mayawati. You have an opportunity in this elections to throw out SCAM from Bundelkhand."

Moments later, Mayawati hit back at him during a rally in Sultanpur with an acronym of her own. "Modi has defined BSP incorrectly. I have spent my life serving the poor, deprived and Dalits. They think of me as their Sampatti. The PM's full name is Narendra Damodardas Modi. His initials are NDM. It stands for 'Negative Dalit Man'. That means he is an anti-Dalit man."

February has been the month of acronym barbs directed at politicians from all quarters. After Modi's 'SCAM' jibe , Rahul Gandhi hit back saying that in SCAM, S stands for ‘service’, C for ‘courage’, A for ’ability’ and M for ‘modesty.

Akhilesh Yadav, too, had given his own full form and said SCAM stood for 'Save Country from Amit Shah and Modi'. Speaking at a rally in Meerut, the CM had said, "Modi Ji came to Meerut just a few days and said they will fight SCAM in UP. He said SCAM – Samajwadi, Congress, Akhilesh and Mayawati. Batao, humari Bua Ji ka naam kyun jod diya ismein? (Tell me, why did he have to join my Bua Ji’s name to this list?) Bua Ji has celebrated Raksha Bandhan with BJP and formed government with them. UP will never forget that.”
