Barasat (WB): Union minister Mukul Roy's son Subhranshu Roy was on Tuesday granted interim bail by a court in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district. The Trinamool Congress candidate was released from a day's jail custody on a bond of Rs 50,000. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Barrackpore Rajarshi Basu Adhikary warned him not to repeat the offence and directed him to appear in court on May 5.
Subhranshu, contesting from Bijpur Assembly constituency in the district, was arrested and sent to jail for a day yesterday. He was arrested from a public meeting at Naihati addressed by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on April 17.
The Commission had on April 12 filed an FIR at the Bijpur police station against Roy and 10 others. He was charged with assaulting government officials,
obstructing government officials in their duties and destruction of government property.
Roy had absconded after the Election Commission ordered his arrest for assaulting EC officials who had gone to erase wall writings on public and private buildings. The EC had also suspended inspector in-charge Partha Pratim Roy for failing to arrest him.
