New Delhi: The original Google Glass is yet to make its mark in the consumer market, but latest reports indicate that the search giant is already gearing up for a second version of its hi-tech wearable gadget that comes with a head-mounted display.
Documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) indicate that Google is working on a device that is equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, similar to the first version of the Internet-connected smart glasses.
The device, codenamed ‘GG1’ hasn’t been detailed in the documents but the limited information points to a second version of Google Glass, Mashable reports.
The first version of the smart glasses allowed the wearer to scroll through their social media feed, watch videos, capture images, etc. all through voice commands or limited manual operations. However, the device’s discreet video recording and photographing functionality turned the privacy advocates against its use, even as it promised of crucial medical uses.
Due to widespread concerns, the $1500 wearable gadget didn’t quite hit the consumer market and Google has since then been working on releasing a second version. Nest founder Tony Fadell has been given the task to redesign and relaunch the wearable.
If the reports are true, we might be able to see the ambitious project head for its second innings some time later this year.
