Anuj, a resident of Jaipur's Brahmpuri area, was walking near Nahargarh hill with his friend Soni on August 18 when he was abducted.

In a swift operation on Tuesday, Jaipur Police successfully cracked the case of a man who had been kidnapped near Rajasthan’s Nahargarh Fort on August 18. The victim, Anuj, was found at a hotel in Himachal Pradesh reportedly under Operation Checkmate. The video capturing his unexpected reaction to being rescued has since gone viral. The footage shows Anuj asleep in a Solan hotel room when Jaipur Police officials burst in.

The video, which was shared on X, starts with the police team entering a room. “Anuj, Anuj.. khada ho jaa (Stand up),” the officials called out, waking Anuj, who appeared confused. Seeing his condition, they quickly identified themselves.

“Police, police. Mast reh (Stay cool. We are the police). Hello,” the officials said, as Anuj, now fully awake, smiled and waved at them. “Jaipur Police. Aapke liye hi aaye hain (We are here for you),” they reassured the relieved kidnap victim.

Viewers were quick to react to the amusing video in the comments section. “Always a good job done by the Police, ” wrote a viewer.

“The news is good, nowadays police get fewer congratulations, anyway positive news,” noted another one.

“Congratulations on the promptness of the police, One question is that despite being a software engineer, how did he become such a criminal,” asked a concerned user.

As detailed by NDTV, Anuj, a resident of Jaipur’s Brahmpuri area, was walking near Nahargarh hill with his friend Soni on August 18 when he was abducted.

The kidnappers, assuming Anuj was wealthy based on his attire, taped his mouth shut, bound his limbs and forced him into a car. They left his friend Soni injured on the road. When Anuj didn’t return home, his family grew concerned and filed a complaint with the police. Even as search teams were deployed, the situation escalated when his parents received a ransom demand of Rs 20 lakh.

Police immediately attempted to trace the ransom caller, but the critical break in the case came when the kidnappers instructed Anuj’s family to drop the ransom money near Dharampur railway station. The police, staking out the location, apprehended an accomplice who was sent to collect the ransom.

During interrogation, the accomplice revealed Anuj’s location, leading the police to Solan, where Anuj was being held captive. Police later identified a software engineer, Virendra Singh, as the mastermind behind the kidnapping plot.
