The fever of cricket has gripped the nation following the commencement of a new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Enthusiastic fans are flocking to stadiums in droves to revel in the T20 action. As expected, the demand for match tickets has soared to new heights, with countless individuals eager to support their beloved teams from the stands. However, amidst this fervour, a devoted IPL enthusiast allegedly found herself at a loss of nearly Rs 86,000 after purchasing tickets from an individual she encountered on Facebook.

The 43-year-old woman wanted to attend the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders which was played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 29. According to a report by the Times of India, she was desperately looking for 20 tickets for the high-voltage clash when she found a Facebook account named “IPL Cricket Ticket.”

The woman immediately dialled the number that was listed in the contact information of the account. The person at the other end asked her to pay a certain amount in advance to confirm the IPL match tickets. The woman took no time to accept the offer and sent Rs 8,000 to the caller for the pre-booking purpose.

Upon receiving the initial amount, the seller asked the woman to transfer Rs 11,000 more to the same account which she did as well. It, however, was not the end of the story. The woman was then asked to send Rs 8,170 to a bank account under the name of Abdul Kalam. She could not understand the motive of the caller and once again made the transaction.

The woman began to doubt when the caller further asked her to send Rs 14,999 and Rs 21,000 to separate bank accounts which took the overall amount to Rs 86,265. After making the first transaction, she requested the scammer to send her the tickets. When the man refused to do so, the woman asked for a refund. Then the caller referred to a technical glitch and assured her that she would get the money back only after making a payment of Rs 16,000.

That’s when the women realised the situation and threatened to lodge a police complaint about the scammer. The man was unfazed as he asked her to do whatever she wanted before disconnecting the call. The woman filed a complaint at a local police station, accusing the anonymous person of cheating and dishonesty.
