The ‘What’s Wrong With India’ is getting a positive spin online. The trend initially erupted on social media as people shared negative experiences with their travel in the country following the alleged gang rape of a Spanish traveller in Dumka, Jharkhand. Many used the phrase ‘What’s wrong with India’ to talk about the lack of reliable public infrastructure, security concerns, poverty, and hygiene issues in the nation. In response to these posts, the official handle of India’s government-citizen engagement platform, MyGovIndia, shared a post that showed headlines boasting of India’s success and development. The headlines showed that India has “wiped out extreme poverty,” became the first nation to land on the moon’s South Pole, became the fastest-growing economy, and showed advancements in digital infrastructure.
While sharing this post, the government-run X account sarcastically wrote, “What’s wrong with India?” This post soon prompted others to share positive things about India while using the phrase “What’s wrong with India?” Most recently the Embassy of Israel participated in this trend as the embassy staff and diplomats shared what they like about the country.
The Embassy shared a video with the caption, “WHAT’S WRONG WITH INDIA? Listen to our diplomats spill the chai on #WhatsWrongWithIndia. Brace yourself for the unexpected twist at the end! Do you agree with their reasoning?”

In the video Naor Gilon, Israeli Ambassador to India, lauded India for making a successful soft landing on the south pole of the Moon with Chandrayaan-3. When he was asked, “What’s wrong with India?”, Gilon said, ”You soft-landed on the Moon. We crashed.” Other diplomats answered, “Too many beautiful places to visit”, “On My God, too many desserts, I love jalebi”, “Too many good songs to listen to”, “Many delicious food items”, and “So many amazing Bollywood movies, I don’t know how to finish them all”.
Interestingly, one of the diplomats answered with “Rakhi Sawant” when asked, “What’s wrong with India?”. He then looks at the pin-up photos of Sawant at his desk and jokingly asks, “Why did you choose Adil (referring to Sawant’s ex-husband Adil Khan Durrani), I am right here.” The video ends with the line, “Everything’s good about India.”
This post by the Embassy of Israel has gathered over 21,000 likes and over 7 lakh views. It was shared over 7,000 times and prompted over 900 comments. This video comes just a day after MyGovIndia shared their positive spin on the ‘What’s wrong with India’ trend.
