'Dune 2 Looks Amazing': Desis Give New Meaning to Hollywood Movie With Hilarious Meme Trend
Viral Memes: 'Dune 2' release gets Desis on a new trend as they share everything from Bollywood with the backdrop of a 'desert'.

Ever since its release on March 1, ‘Dune: Part Two’ or simply ‘Dune 2’ has been riding high on success, its box office soaring like the majestic sand dunes. Helmed by Denis Villeneuve, ‘Dune’ unfolds as a sci-fi epic, drawing inspiration from Frank Herbert’s novel of the same title. This contemporary adaptation stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani, alongside Christopher Walken, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh, all contenders for the coveted Oscars.

The narrative delves deep into Paul’s metamorphic odyssey, as he evolves from a prince to the prophesied Lisan al Gaib, destined to lead the Fremen to their utopia. Amidst this journey, Paul confronts foes, seeks retribution against the Harkonnens, and challenges the formidable power of the Emperor. Amidst political intrigue and personal vendettas, his journey unfolds amidst the vastness of the desert, where every grain of sand holds a story.

This backdrop has sparked a frenzy within the Desi internet community, as they gleefully resurrect stills from Bollywood films set in desert locales. Before long, a humorous trend emerged on ‘X’, with the ubiquitous phrase ‘Dune 2 is amazing’ accompanying these desert-themed snapshots.

From the iconic ‘Lord Bobby’ in ‘Soldier’ to Aamir Khan and Asin sizzling amidst the desert heat, from the madness of ‘Deewane Huye Paagal’ to the romance of ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’, and not forgetting Katrina Kaif’s stunning saree moments – the trend knows no bounds. Who would have thought that a movie could spawn an entirely new cultural phenomenon, all thanks to the creativity of Desis on ‘X’?

Nevertheless, director Villeneuve’s vision of ‘Dune’ as an exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature is palpable. This ethos led the entire cast and crew back to the sands for ‘Dune: Part Two’, spending 27 days amidst Liwa’s towering dunes, some exceeding 600 feet, on the edge of Rub’ Al Khali, the world’s largest continuous desert.

“We had a network of 18 miles of road leading us to different locations where we had tents, catering, construction cranes, telehandlers, and everything,” explains executive producer Tanya Lapointe. “It was a huge endeavour, but it was spectacular,” also served as the second unit director on ‘Dune: Part Two.’
