Sourav Ganguly pulled out the shirtless celebration after India won the NatWest series in 2002.

The Marine Drive in Mumbai was flooded with Indian cricket fans on Thursday evening when Rohit Sharma and his men took part in an open-bus victory parade to celebrate the T20 World Cup triumph. Crazy scenes unfolded on the streets as people indulged in a dancing spree and clicked pictures of their favourite players with the coveted trophy. The parade continued until the bus reached the Wankhede Stadium where the BCCI had arranged a felicitation ceremony for the winning team. The atmosphere at the venue was similarly electrifying. The players and the coaching staff addressed the crowd and appreciated their support by taking a victory lap around the field.

Fans gave a standing ovation and chanted “Vande Mataram” to honour the T20 World Cup champions. Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli led the victory lap and sang “Maa Tujhe Salam” along with the crowd. At one point during the process, Pandya was stunned by a hilarious interference. An enthralled fan perhaps threw his T-shirt from the stands and it directly dropped on Pandya’s hand.

The footage later became widely viral, with viewers calling it the “Thor moment” for Hardik Pandya. A fan later edited the video and added a twist to it. He dug out the archives to find a clip of Sourav Ganguly’s iconic shirtless celebration at the balcony of Lord’s after India won the NatWest series by defeating England in 2002.

The fan merged both the footage to make a cross-over video which created much buzz across social media. He referred to Sourav Ganguly’s jersey and quipped that it was perhaps that blue T-shirt which landed on Hardik Pandya’s right arm during the victory lap at the Wankhede Stadium.

The edited video was shared on X with the caption, “Ohh to shirt yahan se fenka [Ohh, then the shirt was thrown from here (Lord’s balcony)].” Once the video surfaced on the internet, viewers hailed its maker for his creativity. A user quickly admitted, “The crossover no one has ever imagined.”

“From Lord’s balcony to the Wankhede Stadium,” quipped a fan.

“Dude, this is insanely creative!” lauded a viewer.

A fan hilariously predicted that the T-shirt had “travelled through space and time.”

Let’s see a few more reactions:

Since being shared on the microblogging site, the cross-over video has garnered more than 5,90,000 views while the comment section was filled with numerous laughing emojis.
