'Koi Umeed Hai Nahi': Man's Reaction To Son’s UPSC Exam Score Upsets Internet
A post featuring an angry father bashing his son for scoring only 75 marks in his UPSC CSE Prelims 2024 has sparked discussions about toxic parenting on the internet.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam is considered one of the toughest in India. Each year, thousands of candidates sit for the exam with hopes of joining prestigious services like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Recently, after the UPSC exam on June 16, an aspiring candidate faced his father’s disappointment for scoring approximately 75 marks. This conversation between the father and son has gone viral, sparking discussions about toxic parenting on the internet.

The viral message was shared on X (formerly Twitter) along with the text, “This was a response of a dad when his son told he is getting 75 in UPSC Prelims 2024.” The post has accumulated over 1 million views so far.

The conversation began with the father expressing disappointment and scolding his son for what he perceived as a waste of time on the exam. He also compared his son’s performance to another student’s, claiming that the other student got 120 questions correct, despite the UPSC Prelims comprising only 100 questions.

The father then goes on to lament, stating, “My father didn’t give me anything. I managed to live respectfully in a city like Delhi on my own. As for you, I have no hope from you nor do I expect anything from you. You won’t be able to give me anything.”

He ended the conversation with, “Even if I study honestly today, I could still crack UPSC. I knew 20 questions from this year’s paper, and you only managed 40. Understand what you’re capable of. It’s good that you’re being honest, but it’s not enough. Everyone, from Delhi to relatives, now understands the extent of your calibre.”

Many social media users condemned the father’s demeaning behaviour towards his son. One user remarked, “Heartbreaking man. That too over an exam with such low odds of success. No unconditional love for the son. It’s sad, but that’s the truth.”

Another expressed, “Tum humko kuch nahi de paoge. This is brutal, it can totally break the mental strength of the kid. I hope wherever he is, he finds peace.”

A person commented, “The tone is familiar but reading this feels so bad for the son reading this. I hope he stays strong and keeps his morale high.”

“Such parents try to fulfil their desires through their children, completely ignoring their feelings and wishes,” someone added.
