Along with the documentation, passengers have to be aware of the rules of different nations as they travel. A passenger from Indonesia was travelling to Taiwan via Hong Kong. He faced a major issue as he was not aware of the rules of the nation. He was fined Rs 5 lakh for carrying a forbidden item. He was stopped as soon as the plane landed at the airport. According to a published media report , a passenger was stopped by the airport authority for carrying roasted pork and soy sauce. As soon as the passenger reached the Taipei airport, he was stopped by the authorities for luggage checking. A trained dog in the team of airport authorities sniffed out what was wrong. It made the guards alert. The security forces stopped him immediately, as they found that he was carrying roasted pork and soy sauce in his lunch box. The man did not know that pork and soy sauce were banned in Taiwan. These items are prohibited to carry in the country.

The man was stopped immediately by the customs officer. He took the passenger into custody for carrying such items. As per the law of the nation, the passenger was fined 48,430 Hong Kong dollars. It is about Rs 5 lakh in Indian currency. According to reports by the media, the man was not able to pay the fine. He was immediately sent to Hong Kong. The man was advised to pay the fine first when he comes back to Hong Kong in the near future. Without paying the fine, he will not be able to travel to the country.

After the amendment of the law in 2018, importing pork to Taiwan is a punishable offence. During that time, swine flu spread across the country as pork was imported from Africa. The fine for someone carrying pork in Taiwan is Rs 5 lakh. If someone is seen carrying for the second time after getting caught, a hefty amount of 1 million Taiwanese dollars is imposed. According to an official in Taiwan’s health agency, people can only be saved from this punishment if the item comes with the passenger by mistake.
