Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been facing fuel shortage issues, resulting in the cancellation of numerous flights in recent weeks due to financial constraints. Amid this crisis, a viral video surfaced online that showed angry passengers engaged in heated argument with ground staff over flight delays due to the fuel shortage. Originally posted on TikTok, the clip captured passengers pleading for a resolution while expressing frustration over the lack of prior communication regarding flight cancellations. One passenger also claimed he would lose $6,000 due to pre-booked accommodations and rental cars in the destination. Despite repeated requests to involve higher management, the staff members declined to act or respond to the passengers’ queries.
Another frustrated passenger condemned the airline’s management, highlighting that government officials have access to fuel while customers who pay are facing flight cancellations. A concerned individual spoke about his pregnant wife’s situation and urgently asked for clarity on the flight’s departure, questioning if they will fly tonight or the next morning. Meanwhile, PIA is currently in its most severe historical crisis as Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has decided to halt fuel supply due to unpaid dues.
While the video’s exact date remains unclear, October witnessed Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cancelling or rescheduling over 300 flights due to no fuel. This incident not only highlighted mismanagement and inconvenience but also triggered worries regarding PIA’s dependability. As the public appeals for explanations, the question remains about how PIA plans to address these concerns and restore passengers’ trust and confidence in the airline’s operations.
Amid financial turmoil, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has failed to provide salaries for the month of November to its 7,000 employees. Hidayatullah Khan, the airline’s CBA union president, confirmed they are intentionally delaying the salary due to the management. Khan accused the government of pushing the organisation into financial pain, expressing concerns over the humiliation of employees. He warned about the protests from the union if salary delays continue in the upcoming months.
Confirming the salary delay, a PIA spokesperson informed The Tribune, “Efforts are underway to secure funds through alternative channels for salary disbursements." The spokesperson provided assurance that all employees can expect to receive their salaries in the upcoming days.
According to additional reports, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is on the brink of shutting down. Formerly a profitable organisation, PIA has faced a major loss of Rs 750 billion.
