A group of women decided to take a stand against moral policing and they did it flawlessly.

Have you ever been told to “dress properly or modestly?” If not, have you witnessed or heard of someone being told to do so? This is a frequent issue in our society and while many of us often choose to ignore it rather than speak out, the urge to respond is always there. If you’ve ever felt this way, this viral news story might bring you immense satisfaction. A group of women decided to take a stand against moral policing, and they did it flawlessly. They not only voiced their opinions but also made sure their message reached those attempting to impose their standards on them.

The now-viral incident took place in Maharashtra’s Pune. A poster was spotted on a board that asked women to “dress modestly to avoid attracting attention.” The board went viral on social media, triggering a savage answer from a women’s group. It all started when a group who called themselves the Mast Group put up a poster that read, “Women, wear clothes in such a way that no one dares to look at you with evil eyes.”

In response to it, soon another poster from a group calling themselves the ‘Trasth Group’ was put up just below it, asking men to keep their minds and thoughts pure. ”Men, keep your mind so clean that no matter what clothes someone wears, your eyes should not fall,” it read. Both posters, originally written in Marathi were reportedly spotted near a walking track in Pune.

As soon as the photo was uploaded on social media, people gathered in support and praise of the women’s group’s response. “An example of real life, public space gendered creative interruption. The original poster (Marathi) seen at Pune city,” read comment.

“The reply poster should have been bigger…….Also dressing appropriately is as important for men as it is for women. This is by no means sexist but a simple individual / societal etiquette which has become more than necessary. Right time, right place, right dress,” said another user.

“Love the response..btw, fully clothed women have never been assaulted or teased?? … Clothes don’t matter..,” wrote a person while another one praised the reply saying, “Kudos to the Ladies!”

What do you think of the incident in Pune and how would you have replied to the Mast group?

What's your reaction?
