Shocking Video Shows Jan Sewa Express Lavatories Crowded With Passengers
While some pointed fingers at the government for poor rail service, others attributed the overcrowding to ticketless passengers.

Recently, there has been an influx of videos depicting overcrowded trains and another one is gaining traction online. This time the clip doing rounds on the internet shows a jam-packed Jan Sewa Express travelling from Purnia, Bihar to Amritsar, Punjab. The footage reveals passengers hanging out of train windows and occupying spaces by the train’s doors. The recorder also documents the crowded conditions inside the train’s lavatory, where passengers confirm there are at least 10 individuals squeezed inside.

While recording this video, the person points out that people are travelling in such hostile conditions when the temperatures are soaring over 40 degrees Celsius. He also shows that there are many more people at the platform lining up to board the already full train. An X user shared this video online and tagged Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw. He sarcastically captioned the video, “Railway Minister ji, sorry I mean reel minister ji, has this reel not reached you?” So far, this clip has gathered over 2 lakh likes since it was shared on June 17.

In the comments, some people attributed the overcrowding of trains to the government’s poor rail service, delays and insufficient additional trains on busy routes, which compel people to travel in packed conditions. Conversely, others argued that overcrowding was exacerbated by ticketless travellers.

An X user commented, “The ground reality still remains the same, it can’t be improved by introducing Vande Bharat for the special class of people, the fact is that our governments whether it was inc before 2014 or right now is quite slow for the lower middle class and poor. They don’t wanna face the harsh reality of the railway.”

Another person argued, “The problem is genuine, but if the tickets are checked properly, most of these people will not have tickets. This is the condition of the railways due to the negligence of government employees. The government should implement a ticket checking process at railway stations like the metro stations. And a QR scan system should be made before seat entry in the coach, the compartment gate should not open without scanning. QR code should be installed in the washroom also. If the above measures are implemented then 100% of the crowd in trains will be eliminated.”

Just last week, a similar video on X showed passengers in the Chhattisgarh Express sleeping outside the open toilet gate, under the basin and in the passageways.
