“We rushed to the spot with five fire tenders and over 35 staffers. The fire had spread to the ground and first floor and adjacent shops. The firemen doused the fire in time and nobody was injured. At the time of the incident, there were no staffers inside. The fire was controlled in time and not much damage was reported,” Atul Garg, Chief of Delhi Fire Services was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“Thank you for checking on us! We have been receiving various calls and messages from so many of you – our well-wishers and patrons from all over the country. We are truly humbled and grateful,” the post reads.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started as employees of Veg Gulati were leaving the restaurant after the day’s service.

Gulati Restaurant is a recognised venue for foodies in Delhi, with a loyal following. It started as a dhaba in 1959 and has since expanded into a full-service restaurant.

Veg Gulati is adjacent to the Gulati’s Restaurant on Pandara Road that operates under the same brand. Both restaurants are frequently crowded, especially late at night, with customers often waiting in long queues.
