Several cases of unhygienic food being served in trains have come to limelight in recent years. Despite taking stringent measures, the situation remains the same. In yet another incident, a man travelling via the Vande Bharat Express from Dehradun to Anand Vihar in Delhi was stunned to spot that the yoghurt which was served to him as part of his meal on the train was infected with fungus. The passenger posted his complaint tagging the official accounts of the Ministry of Railways, Northern Railway including the Railway Minister on X (Formerly Twitter). In his post, Harshad Topkar shared pictures of the meal that was served to him during his journey on the executive class of Vande Bharat.
“Travelling on Vande Bharat from Dehradun to Anand Vihar in the executive class today. Found a greenish layer most probably fungus in the yoghurt served. This is not expected from the Vande Bharat service,” Harshad Topkar wrote in his post.

Soon after Harshad complained on March 5, Indian Railways responded to his post. Northern Railway also replied to Harshad’s post and tagged the official account of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), saying “Kindly look into this matter.”
However, this is not the only incident that has created stir among the travellers. In January 2024, a man travelling via the Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi to Varanasi alleged that stale food was served to him and others during the journey. “Hi sir, I am on a journey with 22416 from NDLS to BSB. Food that is served now is smelling and very dirty. Kindly refund my all the money. These vendors are spoiling the brand name of Vande Bharat Express,” Akash Keshari wrote in his post while tagging the concerned authorities.
