Alice Finot finished fourth in the women's 3000m steeplechase final but broke the European record with a time of 8:58.67.

The ongoing Summer Olympics, underway in Paris, has been creating a buzz for many reasons. Questions have been raised against the organisers, with athletes expressing their discontent about many internal issues. Keeping aside these controversies, a few good things are happening at the Games. One such event unfolded after the women’s 3000m steeplechase final on Tuesday, August 6. French sprinter Alice Finot stole the show in the race as she broke the European record with a time of 8:58.67. She, however, finished fourth and failed to claim any medal. Despite the disappointment, it was certainly a memorable evening for Finot. Once the race was over, the 33-year-old went running to her boyfriend, who was present at the arena to cheer for her.

In a heartwarming twist, Finot went down on one knee to propose to her partner. A video featuring the beautiful moment was later dropped on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption– “French athlete came in fourth in the 3000m steeplechase, a European record, and asked for her boyfriend’s hand.”

The clip opened with Finot taking out a cute badge, which was kept with one of her friends. Fans in the nearby stands might have predicted what would happen next. They went on to encourage the French runner. She then sat on the sidelines while holding the ring in her hand. It appeared to be an emotional moment for her boyfriend as well. The guy was in tears as he shared a tight hug with Finot. The crowd was moved by the adorable proposal and started cheering for the couple.

Responding to the post, one user commented, “To love is nothing. To be loved is something. But to love and be loved, that’s everything.”

“Women breaking all barriers. Love to see that,” said a viewer.

Shedding light on the feelings of Alice Finot’s boyfriend, a person wrote, “I bet he cried tears of joy and can’t wait to pick out his wedding dress.”

Overwhelmed by Alice Finot’s gesture, another user commented, “That is sweet. He should be proud of her!”

Earlier, US rower Justin Best did something similar in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower after winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. The athlete brought more than 2,700 yellow roses to propose to his long-time girlfriend Lainey Duncan.
