Imagine driving on a five-way highway and suddenly, the route becomes ‘clogged’ with rolls of toilet paper spilling from a truck. This seemingly bizarre scenario took place on a five-lane highway in Newhall, California in the USA. According to the New York Post, the toilet rolls spilled out of a Ford F-350 truck that was carrying them. Luckily, only three large boxes of toilet paper fell on the road as opposed to the whole load. According to California Highway Patrol, traffic had to be paused on two lanes so that the road could be cleared. Officers managed to clear the roads in about 20 minutes. The incident took place last week on Monday, March 11.
A drone video showed four officers scrambling to collect the toilet rolls before they opened up and spilled more. The officers used their patrol cars to block the traffic. The truck driver’s identity and what caused the spill is unclear. CBS 58 news anchor Alex Corradetti shared the video on X (Formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Traffic came to a standstill in California as tolls of toilet paper filled one busy highway!”

In the comments, many people referred to how at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, people had clamoured to hoard toilet paper. Making this reference, an X user wrote, “People would have been scooping those up a few years ago.” Another mentioned, “This would have been a horrific scene at the start of the pandemic…”
While no one stepped out of their cars to collect the toilet paper, this would have been a different scene if it were money. Back in November 2021, an armoured truck which belonged to a bank spilled massive wads of cash across a California freeway. This caused chaos as people got out of their vehicles and started collecting the notes.
The incident took place near San Diego when the bank truck was on its way to Canada. Social media influencer, Demi Bagby shared a video from the scene that showed people scooping the cash and even tossing it into the air for fun.

California Highway Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation urged people to return the money in a press statement. In a joint statement, the authorities said, “Many of the motorists returned the money immediately to the officers; however, there were motorists observed driving from the scene with stolen money. The CHP would like to thank those motorists who have already returned money to their local CHP office and remind the public to do the right thing and return any money they found on the freeway.”
