There is no dearth of videos on the internet showing individuals attempting to make a world record with their remarkable skills and creativity. From jaw-dropping feats to hair-raising records, individuals are continuing to show elite-level talent and bag a Guinness World Record in their name. Some of these records leave people in awe, while there are countless bizarre world records that can blow your minds away. This time, a Nigerian woman, the creator of the longest handmade wig, has scripted history by setting a Guinness World Record for the widest wig.
Identified as Helen Williams, the woman has crafted the widest wig, which measures 3.65 m (11 ft 11 in) wide and trails all the way to the floor. The professional wig maker began working in February, and it took her months to plan and design her record-breaking creation.
The wig is made from more than 800 bundles of auburn hair, and Helen spent 4,138,200 Naira (Rs 229,000) on the materials. She made this latest record-breaking creation mostly by hand and used a sewing machine for some parts. She stitched it all together on the framework with the help of a needle and thread. The wig maker also attached more than 1,000 rhinestones to it.
Helen Williams, who also holds the record for most hair clips in a wig in 30 seconds, said, “I am very proud of myself. I now hold three records. As a professional wig maker, I look forward to breaking many more records in the wig category. I enjoy taking on difficult tasks, it makes me a better person, and I learn new things.”
Taking to the social media platform Instagram, Guinness World Records posted a video showing Helen flaunting her 3.65 m (11 feet and 11 inches) wig. The wig maker shared that she was inspired to take on the challenge by actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore, reported Guinness World Records.
The video was captioned, “Widest wig 3.65 m (11 ft 11 in) by Helen Williams.”

Speaking about the challenges she faced while making this wig, Helen said, “I encountered many problems. The first few days of the attempt were difficult because I couldn’t walk or sit properly anymore. I was feeling pains everywhere, I had to deal with back pains, neck pains, and pains in my thighs.”
She went on to say that putting the wig on her head was also very tough because of the weight. Sharing her happiness about completing the project and her plan to keep the wig on display in her office, she added, “But I am very happy I completed the project. I want my children and great-grandkids to grow up and see the widest wig. The wig is now part of history.”
