War In Ukraine: Biden Speaks To Zelensky, Slams Russian Aggression Says US Stands With Ukrainians
Biden said he will meet G7 leaders later on Thursday to announce sanctions on Russia to fend Russian forces from continuing with the aggression

The US president Joe Biden spoke to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday soon after the latter’s nation came under attack from Russian forces.

“I condemned this unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces. I briefed him on the steps we are taking to rally international condemnation, including tonight at the United Nations Security Council. He asked me to call on the leaders of the world to speak out clearly against President Putin’s flagrant aggression, and to stand with the people of Ukraine,” Biden said according to a statement released by the White House.

“We will continue to provide support and assistance to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” Biden further added.

Soon after Putin announced that he is launching a military operation in Ukraine, blasts were heard in Kyiv and Kharkiv. Russia also confirmed that it is using precision targets to break down Ukraine military defences. Sirens were sounded in Kyiv and visuals shared by news agencies MSNBC and Sky News showed images of large traffic in Kyiv showing people moving towards Lviv and empty residential areas respectively.

The Ukrainian president Zelensky also spoke to Boris Johnson, Qatar emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Charles Michel, the president of the European Council and UK prime minister Boris Johnson as well. He said that he also spoke to French president Emmanuel Macron and sought his support.

Zelensky said that Ukrainians need not fear and the world is with them.

The European Commission also in a press conference expressed that they stand with Ukraine. “We will stand united with transatlantic partners, violence and destruction cannot bring political gains. We will design urgent assistance to Ukraine, will be active in evacuation ops and evacuate our own staff amid Russian attack. We made efforts for a diplomatic solution. There was a grave and premeditated attack on Ukraine. We need Russian president Putin to stop this senseless aggression. We stand with Ukraine,” EU vice-president Josep Borrell said.

The EU commission president said that a package of massive sanctions is being readied.
