Laapataa Ladies’ Nitanshi Goel On Sajni Re Going Viral, Met Gala Pic: ‘Can't Stop Flexing' | Exclusive
Nitanshi Goel discusses her social media habits and feeling proud for not being a phone addict. She recalls how her MET Gala Photoshop pic came as a 'shocker'.

Nitanshi Goel, who shot to fame with Laapataa Ladies, has also emerged as a social media sensation. In today’s day and age where social media has become a yardstick to measure success, memes featuring Phool Kumari and Sajni Re reels going viral bear a testament to Nitanshi’s popularity. “The smile is getting wider every day, every minute. It feels like my life has turned upside down,” she tells us exclusively.

Reacting to Sajni Re becoming a fan favourite on social media, she says, “I open my social media and see that every other reel has Sajni Re playing in the background. Every time I listen to the song, I feel like I’m the luckiest girl because I’m the OG ‘Sajni’. I can’t stop flexing it! People are recreating the recipe of Kalakand hoping that Phool loves it and it’s as amazing as the one that she makes in the film and there’s Sajni Re playing in the backdrop!”

Inarguably, however, the biggest social media viral moment for her was when Aamir Khan Productions shared a Photoshopped picture of Nitanshi in the get-up of Phool at the MET Gala. Calling that episode a ‘shocker’, she shares, “I woke up in the morning and saw that, thinking, how did I land up there and did it really happen? I didn’t even know that the team was planning to put that picture out. They wanted to surprise me and it just blew up. I thought it would become the next meme of the year!”

Nitanshi reveals that many couldn’t grasp the truth behind the picture. “I got so many messages from people saying, ‘Did you seriously go there and not tell us?’ So many of my friends also asked me if I went there looking like Phool. Just a day before that picture was posted, I saw Alia Bhatt killing it on the red carpet, hoping that I could attend it someday. And then the next day I saw this picture. I told myself, 50-50 karke meri manifestation work kar rahi hai (laughs),” she says.

For the young actor, however, staying safe on social media is as important as having fun through it. And so, last month, she joined Snapchat’s panel discussion on navigating online safety for teens. Commenting on how they should be more responsible on digital platforms, she states, “If you aren’t careful, you might end up in the wrong space. For those who haven’t had pleasant experiences, I would tell them that Snapchat has these safety features, which make it ahead of its time. If someone is troubling you, you can block them and be assured that they won’t be able to reach out to you by creating other accounts either.”

Does she have any social media dos and don’ts? “No, I’m not so calculative. I’m not always on my phone. My screen time is very less and I’m very proud of it. I decided that for myself. I want to be able to engage with my audience who feels like my family, and connect, and have a conversation with them. But after a point, I also want to do other things since there are too many things on my plate right now. I can’t give a big chunk of my time to social media,” says Nitanshi.
