Milan: Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti will meet with coach Claudio Ranieri in a bid to sort out the Serie A side's miserable season, as he evaluates the 60-year-old's position at San Siro.
The Roman is under pressure after a run of five successive defeats in all competitions but the Nerazzurri supremo insists he will not make any rash decisions on the coach's future.
Inter have lost seven of their past eight matches — drawing the other one — and have not even managed to score in their past five, the latest being a 1-0 defeat at Napoli on Sunday.
Moratti said on Monday, "I will call Ranieri and we'll see what we'll do. I'll see what his state of mind is and that of the team. I talked to him the other day and thought there would be a good reaction from a psychological point of view. ... I didn't see that."
Ranieri is Inter's second coach of the season after replacing Gian Piero Gasperini five games into the campaign.
Inter were considered potential title challengers following a run of eight victories, before the poor run began.
"We're thinking, we're seeing [what we can do]," Moratti was quoted as saying by La Republica.
"Now I will call Ranieri because I haven't yet heard from him and we will see in a little bit what we'll do. Could we come out of this situation still with Ranieri [in charge]? I think so. However, now I want to hear his state of mind and that of the players."
Inter lie seventh in Serie A and are 1-0 down after the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Marseille.
