BANGALORE: Earthquakes pose the risk of causing instantaneous destruction, loss of life and despair on a scale. The high buildings are the first ones to be affected by the earthquakes. Scientists across the world have developed technology to prevent such disasters and damage to life and property. The concept of earthquake-free building has become popular. The realtors, across the city, huddled up to discuss the feasibility and importance of constructing earthquake-proof buildings following Wednesday’s mild tremors.“When a city witnesses natural calamities, people prefer to buy a property which is relatively safe. Bangalore has just witnessed mild tremors and the buyers have set their eyes on safety now. It is assumed that the property market will see around 30-40 percent hike as developers will need to have the specific engineering mechanisms intact in order to construct earthquake secure structures,” explained Dhaval Ajmera, Director of Ajmera Realty and Infra India. When compared to north and east parts of the country which have witnessed more earthquakes,  Bangalore is relatively safe as it does not come under any seismic zone. However, when buildings are built with earthquake-free technology and engineers, the cost shoots up naturally.“Currently, the technology is available. Substantial research has been done and it is still on. The costs are marginally high,” explained H R Girish, CEO of the Vakil Housing Development Corporation.
