Mumbai: A 13-year-old schoolboy's death in Mumbai has created a controversy.
Abhishek Tiwari, a student of Guru Nanak School in Mumbai, died on Wednesday amidst allegations that he was severely beaten up by his teacher.
"Two days ago, he was beaten by his teacher so hard, he couldn't walk. He had not been able to sleep for the past two nights, because he was so troubled by the torture," Chandrapal Tiwari, Abhishek's father, said.
Abhishek, a Class VIII student, was declared dead at the Sion Hospital and a case of accidental death was registered after a post-mortem conducted at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
But there are conflicting reports about the cause of his death.
While the post-mortem revealed that Abhishek died of a dog-bite, family sources alleged that he fell ill after being severely beaten up by his drawing teacher.
The police too share the hospital authorities’ view and say that the cause of Abhishek’s death was rabies he acquired two months ago.
The body has been sent to the JJ Hospital for a post-mortem again and the report is awaited.
