Former chief urban planner of CMDA and recipient of UN Habitat Scroll of Honour award, G Dattatri, passed away at BSS Hospital on Wednesday morning. The 82-year-old planner died of illness after being admitted to the hospital on Sunday afternoon, family sources said.
“He was not doing well for the past two days. He had diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problem,” family sources said.
He was active in promoting urban development and environmental management concepts among youth and citizen groups. He was the trustee of Citizens Alliance for Sustainable Living (SUSTAIN), a civil society non-profit organisation for promoting sustainable development. He would be cremated at 11 am on Thursday.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter. Shekar Dattatri, one of his sons, is a renowned wildlife filmmaker.
